Barbara V. Lylo, 88, of Nescopeck, passed away peacefully on Friday, February 13, 2026, at Allied Services Meade StreetHospice Center, Wilkes-Barre. She was preceded in death by her husband, Nicholas Lylo, in 1997, they had 33 beautiful years together.
The daughter of a coal miner she was born on April 18, 1937, in Glen Lyon, to the late Andrew and Julia (Moskwa) Skordy.
Barbara graduated from Newport Township High School in 1955 and went on to pursue her passion for helping others by attending the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing, where she graduated in 1958. Barbara's career as a registered nurse spanned more than four decades. She dedicated herself to patient care in various capacities, from working privately to serving as a charge nurse on the surgical floor, and later retiring from the Bloomsburg Hospital, in 2001, after touching countless lives.
Barbara's adventurous spirit was unmatched. She was a woman who loved to explore the world, from the American West to Italy, Jerusalem, Egypt, and England. Barbara's faith was a cornerstone of her life, as evidenced by her devout participation in Ss. Cyril's and Methodious Ukrainian Catholic Church. Her volunteer work ranged from making pierogis to organizing social activities, and she gave her time generously to charitable organizations like Meals on Wheels and the Sacred Heart.
In addition to her community service, Barbara was a member of social groups such as The Red Hat Ladies and Beta Sigma PhiSorority, where she formed lifelong friendships. An avid reader and gardener, Barbara's free spirit and confidence were evident long before they became fashionable. She was a memory maker, whether playing dress-up with her grandchildren or enjoying weeklong beach vacations with family. Barbara's signature hats and scarves were her trademark, a reflection of her unique style and personality.
Surviving are her loving children, Nicholas P. Lylo (MaryJane), Nichelle A. Moran (Daniel), and Andrew M. Lylo (Christina), and her cherished grandchildren, Alexis, Anna, Ethan, Cole, and Nicholas. Barbara is survived by her loving sister Illaria Steele and was preceded in death by her siblings, Kathryn and Donald. She also leaves behind many wonderful nieces and nephews, all of whom will miss her deeply.
A viewing will be held on Friday, February 20 from 4:00 pm until 7:00 pm at the James L. Hinckley Jr. Funeral Home and Cremation Services Inc., 1024 N. Market St., Berwick where a Panachida will be held at 5:15 p.m. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, February 21 at Ss. Cyril and Methodius Ukrainian Catholic Church, located at 706 North Warren St with Rev. Vasyl Putera officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
